The quality of the windows and doors is based on four pillars, all of which are important regardless of the type of window. What makes an windows and doors of good quality? What properties need to be examined in order to purchase a good window, door, or sliding door? The answers to these questions can be found in the following article.

1. Windows and doors profile system

Choosing the right windows and doors profile system is the first pillar of quality. Regardless of the material – wood, PVC, aluminum, or steel windows and doors – the selection of the frame system supplier (commonly known as the system provider) and the type of profile system within it is not the responsibility of the buyer, but of the sales professional.
We choose profile systems in every product category based on the necessary technical specifications, not price, but even within a single family of profiles, they can vary significantly. Of course, the size, windows and doors direction, external and internal color, shading, and other options will be the buyer’s decisions.

2. Manufacturing quality

Manufacturing quality is as important as the selected window, door, or sliding door profile system. Compliance with manufacturing regulations, training of professionals, adhesive and sealing discipline can vary from company to company.
The procurement and daily maintenance of quality automated manufacturing equipment, the culture typical of quality factories, does not exist in every window factory, so it is worth visiting the manufacturer’s facility. During such a visit – during a conversation – even laypeople will immediately sense the quality and any warranty-related issues that can be expected here.

3. Thermal insulation glass, glass panel

Thermal insulation glass, glass panels always come from a glass processor to the window factory or, in the case of aluminum windows and doors, mostly to the site. Glass processors are popularly referred to as glass factories, but in Hungary, architectural flat glass is currently not produced (previously Salgótarján and then Orosháza hosted this industry).
Thermal insulation glass in a good quality windows and doors consists of three parallel glass layers with some distance between them, combined in a single panel.

The properties of these combined glass panels can be classified according to a wide range of coatings, layers, adhesives, or heat treatment, such as thermal insulation, acoustics, admitting solar energy, delaying break-ins, color, and transparency. The responsibility for the knowledge and pricing of the glass panel lies with the window manufacturer, as well as its warranty compliance.

4. Installation of the windows and doors

The installation of the windows and doors is the most neglected stage in our profession (preparatory engineering and on-site technical supervision). Self-employed installers go to construction sites and leave sliding doors supported by small wedges, gaps without vapor barrier and insulation. Unfortunately, in 20-25 years, we have become laggards in this field, and the departure of skilled professionals did not help with this.
Our company has had its own installation team and installation vehicles for many years because handling the problems after subcontracted work became unbearable.

From the simplest windows and doors installation to high-level glass facades, motorized windows and doors, controls, cabling, and training are no problem for us. Connecting to smart home solutions has also become a daily routine in the field of automated aluminum windows and doors and shading systems.

Tips for buying windows and doors:

The responsibility for selecting a quality aluminum window, door, or sliding door lies with the buyer, so they should thoroughly and personally investigate everything. In the case of facade windows and doors, we are always talking about a significant amount of money, but the care invested in preparation will pay off. If possible, trust a technical supervisor at your own expense during the selection process, so you will have a professional support who will surely protect your interests.

Always remember that you are not buying just a window, but a complete window package! This package includes a manufactured product, intellectual services, installation services, and warranty elements. Before purchasing an aluminum window, door, or sliding door, check (or have it checked) in the company information system if the window manufacturer is involved in any official proceedings, what the ownership conditions are, but you can also find indications of its unstable financial situation here. The ownership conditions and the history of the window company determine the quality of the products they manufacture.

If you purchase from a trader, inquire about the window manufacturer, profile manufacturer, and selected profile system data when you receive your quote. If you have made sure of the expected quality as described above, include all the information (manufacturer name, product model, color, layering of thermal insulation glass panels, and technical content of installation) in the agreement.

Facade structures for full transparency
Curtain walls connect several large glass surfaces into a single structure, many times in an invisible manner. Initially these elements were exclusively used in communal building technology but, with the penetration of the minimalistic style, it also appeared in the family home segment. Today it is the most dynamically developing branch of the closing structure market, in that these surfaces are suitable for individual solutions where only the imagination of the client and the designers can set the boundaries.

The issue of shading is becoming increasingly important
The changing economic environment and rising energy prices are also impacting the construction industry. But how might the market for premium segment windows change? According to KAV's CEO, Károly Lovász, the focus will shift towards the issue of shading, and it is crucial for builders to select companies with a stable background and a qualified workforce.

For a smart home, product selection is key
For a newly built property, in terms of windows and doors, one of the most important questions is whether prospective residents would like a building management system in the house, as all solutions need to be tailored to this in the design phase. For today's systems, system-specific connector units and auxiliary modules must already be planned and positioned so that they can remain completely hidden.

Frameless sliding door structures with an architect’s eye
Each project poses a different challenge to architects and to door and window professionals as well. One of our reference concepts is based on the unlimited view created by the wing-opening roof and the space stretched by the floor. Filigree division solutions, as well as frameless sliding mechanisms, were the main solution to achieve maximum transparency. We talked to the architect Orsolya Glavanovics about the issues raised by the aluminium door and window solutions implemented during the design and construction, who the Myd-II Interior Design Stúdióval planned it jointly, house operating on this for the special fenestration solutions.

THOSE ABOUT WHOM WHO NOBODY EVER TALKS, OR THE EMINENCES OF MANUFACTURING PREPARATION
KAV’s customers come into contact with several of our colleagues in the bidding, preparation and construction processes in the course of a job. These are our sales and estimation colleagues, our technical and manufacturing preparation engineers, our project engineers, and then our installation specialists. It is very rare that the end-user comes into contact with the manufacturing preparation engineers. In this article, we’d like to describe the work of these professionals in connection with the Continental Golf Club construction project.

Aluminium windows and doors and the gluing technique
Unique windows and doors, large glass surfaces and narrow frames would not have become part of our building culture without developments in gluing technology. We talked to Gábor Farkas, head of the industrial glue technology division at Sika Hungária Kft., about the special fixing and sealing processes and innovations that have emerged in this field over the past decade. The cooperation between KAV and Sika goes back many years. In the beginning, they only supplied sealing materials for glass-to-glass connections made on-site, but today they supply KAV's factory workers and installation team with special materials and tools, and also train our engineers.

We build for the future rather than for today
Clear shapes, large glass surfaces, spacious interior spaces and creative use of materials – these are the main features of the most predominant architectural style of our era, minimalistic design, in which interest is outstanding in Hungary. However, the number of really well designed and built minimalistic family homes is relatively low. The property our engineers consider as one of the best designed ones our company has met in recent years was built in Budapest. During the project we paid increased attention to the design of large, liberally designed glass surfaces, essential for creating open spaces. We had a conversation with the developer of the house about what was needed to create this property.

Rebirth of a Bauhaus villa
Rebirth of a Bauhaus villa
This year, the Bauhaus is 100 years old, and it is a great pleasure for us to take part in the renovation of a property displaying the marks of this school. When the Bauhaus appears as a description of a building, it is a guarantee of clean shapes, exciting spaces and quality materials. Even so, it is important to point out that although several Hungarian architects were in contact with the famous German school, there are hardly any Bauhaus buildings, in the strict sense, in Budapest. Péter Lenzsér, the architect, talked about how this building bears the hallmarks of style and how it is worth embarking on such a renovation.
