Aluminium doors and windows with custom solutions

The founding of KAV Hungária was also triggered by an innovative idea: why not introduce aluminium doors and windows to the family home market? Since then, our own developments, individual solutions, needs assessment and construction work organisation have become the defining elements of the company. Károly Lovász, the managing director of KAV, Gábor Csóti, the founder of the Gamechangers community and Kálmán Szabó, the host of the podcast by the Association for Excellence Public Benefit Association, spoke about innovation, the underlying managerial thinking and organisational structure.

KAV aims to be one of the leading manufacturers of innovative doors and windows in Europe. Our unique approach, based on the fact that there can be a solution for every customer need, as well as our own ongoing developments, can in many ways change the way we have been thinking about windows and doors so far. From this conversation, we can find out what mission or leadership creed drives our company, how our organisational culture is built and what factors affect the success of KAV.

Károly Lovász highlighted in the interview that there are two things you should never forget as an innovative company manager: you have to stick to the truth of your vision and be persistent. An innovation-based company structure can never rest, otherwise it will be caught up with and copied. The task of the leader is therefore to continuously spin new ideas and directions by giving examples. This kind of attitude is also important for colleagues, as it encourages them to follow, act and think.

However, staff turnover should not be feared; if it goes in the right direction then it will bring results. According to Károly Lovász, the reflexes of the Hungarian workforce are currently inappropriate; they often go in the wrong direction, so it is worth paying attention to international examples. Correcting mistakes is also a social interest, not just an economic one. Thus, in addition to KAV’s thinking and vision, its approach to work organisation and its work ethic also differ from what is usual in Hungary. However, you have to dare to be unique and to take this on because, when coupled with perseverance, serious results can be achieved with this perception.

One of the cornerstones of our company, known in Hungary in the sector for its unique approach and solution, is that the owner does not define his company as a window manufacturer, but as a service provider. Therefore, personal contact with partners and customers is essential, and social responsibility also plays a key role in KAV’s corporate culture.

Aluminium windows and doors and the gluing technique

Unique windows and doors, large glass surfaces and narrow frames would not have become part of our building culture without developments in gluing technology. We talked to Gábor Farkas, head of the industrial glue technology division at Sika Hungária Kft., about the special fixing and sealing processes and innovations that have emerged in this field over the past decade. The cooperation between KAV and Sika goes back many years. In the beginning, they only supplied sealing materials for glass-to-glass connections made on-site, but today they supply KAV's factory workers and installation team with special materials and tools, and also train our engineers.

Aluminium door and window systems for a golf club extension

From almost the first pencil stroke, KAV's staff cooperated with Kroki Studio on the extension of the Continental Golf Club. This included a jointly designed support structure, custom latched line-up and skylight connections, amongst other elements of the exclusive building. Development by KAV of aluminium doors and windows with an all-glass look

Optivison© is unique in Hungary. (KAV is the only player in the small and medium-sized business sector to have developed aluminium doors and windows with an all-glass look for family homes.) Apart from KAV, no one among small and medium-sized enterprises has developed all-glass look aluminium fenestration for family houses. The system was designed to respond to the needs of our customers: we made the frame flush with the glass by rethinking the structure of tilt and turn windows and balcony doors. Our solution creates a ‘glass wing’ effect, making Optivison© systems the trend-setting doors and windows for modern family homes.

We build for the future rather than for today

Clear shapes, large glass surfaces, spacious interior spaces and creative use of materials – these are the main features of the most predominant architectural style of our era, minimalistic design, in which interest is outstanding in Hungary. However, the number of really well designed and built minimalistic family homes is relatively low. The property our engineers consider as one of the best designed ones our company has met in recent years was built in Budapest. During the project we paid increased attention to the design of large, liberally designed glass surfaces, essential for creating open spaces. We had a conversation with the developer of the house about what was needed to create this property.

Production of custom doors and windows at the KAV plant

Most domestic companies selling aluminium doors and windows do not have their own production capacity. However, in KAV's imposing manufacturing plant, they are able to resolve even seemingly impossible profile connections. This is where further thought-out versions of Schüco or Reynaers profile elements and completely unique door and window solutions are manufactured, designed and developed by KAV engineers. We talked to Albert Herbut, the head of KAV's Kisbér plant, about the production processes and the operation of the plant.

Rebirth of a Bauhaus villa

This year, the Bauhaus is 100 years old, and it is a great pleasure for us to take part in the renovation of a property displaying the marks of this school. When the Bauhaus appears as a description of a building, it is a guarantee of clean shapes, exciting spaces and quality materials. Wind pressure is the biggest challenge for doors and windows designed for Iceland

Our company, is involved in the doors and windows solutions of the Marriott Hotel, being built near Harpa, one of the symbolic buildings of Reykavík. The Icelandic architecture and the weather conditions on the island require different systems from the ones we are used to at home, so the KAV team has also built a prototype for this work, taking into account, among others, the installation and insulation aspects.
